TIPS FOR COMMUTER STUDENT DURING FUSION

Commuter Central and Campus Life eagerly await your arrival to FUSION - New Student Orientation! The entire four day Orientation schedule is designed to be Commuter friendly. During Fusion you will be traveling back and forth just like you will for classes. Each of the four days of Orientation is packed full of activities designed to help you find your niche on campus, meet friends, arrange commuting options, get involved in the life of campus and so much more! You will be part of small orientation groups mixed with residential and commuter students, like yourself, to allow you to make friends from all over campus.

COMMUTER STUDENT TIPS FOR DAY 1: SATURDAY, AUG. 30

  • During Orientation, free parking is available in the EMU Student Center parking lot located on Oakwood Street.
  • Commuter students and families should drive separately to EMU on Saturday, Day One as students end their day later than the commuter family members.
  • New Student Orientation for Commuters starts with Commuter Check in at EMU Student Center. When you check-in, we will provide you with a full schedule including room locations and descriptions of sessions.
  • Day One of Orientation is a busy day for you and for campus as it is also move-in-day for residence hall students. Please allow yourself ample time to get to EMU.
  • After check-in you will head to the Commuter Student & Family Session. Saturday is the only day that families need to plan to be on campus. Students will continue to commute to EMU for the remaining three days of the Orientation.
  • The entire day is filled with numerous events, sessions and activities for students and your parent/families. At times throughout the day students and families will be separated. You might want to designate a special meeting place in the Student Center or be sure to bring your cell phones so you can meet up before the Opening Convocation Ceremony.
  • Families will depart for home immediately following the Opening Convocation Ceremony and students will then meet-up with their freshman groups so commuter students and families should drive separately to EMU on Saturday, Day One as students end their day later than the commuter family members.
  • Orientation activities on Day One, include Late Night at the Rec/IM where students will have the opportunity to unwind in the Old Robb Student Recreation Center. Students may want to bring recreation clothing if they plan to swim or workout, otherwise they can participate in other events going on at the Rec/IM.
